El fraude científico y las malas prácticas son crecientemente relevantes como tema de investigación en diversas áreas como la cienciometría o la ética de la investigación. Desde la crisis de la replicación hasta las retracciones masivas, pasando por el uso fraudulento de LLMs, o las ‘fábricas de artículos’ este fenómeno ha dado lugar a numerosas líneas de investigación, incluyendo la ‘bibliometría forense’, y a diferentes desarrollos en las políticas de investigación como el movimiento por la evaluación y la investigación responsable. La creciente aparición de casos de fraude científico también ha generado un creciente volumen de noticias en la prensa generalista, que facilita el descrédito de la investigación científica como medio legítimo para obtener resultados fiables y válidos. En esta charla, Jorge Mañana Rodríguez, investigador en el Instituto de Filosofía del CSIC, tratará cuestiones como los riesgos en el uso de los indicadores bibliométricos, el análisis de redes de citación y la detección de patrones espurios, los principales rasgos de la crisis de la replicación, la hiperautoría como mala práctica científica y su detección, los modelos de publicación y las revistas predadoras y las retracciones, su impacto y el proceso de identificación y caracterización de las mismas.
Jorge Mañana Rodríguez (doctor en documentación por la UC3M, 2013) es científico titular en el Instituto de Filosofía del CSIC. Ha desarrollado su actividad investigadora en el CSIC, la UC3M y la UCM y está especializado en análisis cuantitativos aplicados al estudio de las publicaciones científicas y la evaluación de la investigación.

Scientific fraud and misconduct: detection and analysis through publications
Scientific fraud and misconduct are increasingly relevant as a research topic in various areas such as scientometrics or the ethics of research. From the replication crisis to massive retractions, through fraudulent use of LLMs, or ‘article mills’, this phenomenon has given rise to numerous lines of research, including ‘forensic bibliometrics’, and different developments in research policies such as the movement for responsible evaluation and research. The increasing appearance of cases of scientific fraud has also generated a growing volume of news in the general press, which facilitates the discrediting of scientific research as a legitimate means of obtaining reliable and valid results. In this talk, Jorge Mañana Rodríguez, a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of the CSIC, will address issues such as the risks in the use of bibliometric indicators, citation network analysis and detection of spurious patterns, the main features of the replication crisis, hyperauthorship as scientific misconduct and its detection, publication models and predatory journals, retractions, their impact and the process of identifying and characterizing them.
Jorge Mañana Rodríguez (Ph.D. in Documentation from UC3M, 2013) is a tenured scientist at the Institute of Philosophy of the CSIC. He has developed his research activity at the CSIC, UC3M, and UCM and specializes in quantitative analysis applied to the study of scientific publications and research evaluation.
